Gaslight, featuring Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey, and Chitrangda Singh, delivers on the basic elements of a thriller, including an eerie setting, an alleged murder, and suspicious characters. However, does it meet the expectations of a modern thriller? Let's dive into our review.

The film revolves around Meesha (Sara Ali Khan), a young paraplegic woman who returns to her family's palace after receiving a letter from her father, Raja Ratan Singh Gaikwad. Upon arrival, she encounters her stepmother Rukmini (Chitrangda Singh), who appears to be hiding something. The estate is looked after by Kapil (Vikrant Massey), an employee of Raja Saheb, who arouses suspicion due to his too-good-to-be-true demeanor.

Gaslight's beginning draws in viewers with a tempo and horror movie feels that are reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho in a modern world. However, the film's plot does have some loopholes, such as the predictable nature of some of the characters. Despite this, Gaslight creates suspense and fear through its use of psychological means, such as making certain characters question their sanity.

Moreover, the film effectively uses background tracks to enhance the suspense, such as the self-playing piano scene and the creaking of the old floorboard. The cast's performances are commendable, with Sara Ali Khan demonstrating improved accent and acting skills. Chitrangda Singh also delivers an impressive performance, carrying the suspicion of the character well.

Overall, Gaslight is a promising attempt at modern thrillers, though it falls short in some areas. Despite this, the film is a decent attempt at delivering on the expectations of a thriller.
